This year, the Minnesota Chapter of CPCU is happy to announce we have 32 new members. I clearly remember the day I learned I had achieved my CPCU. Interesting to note: when I was taking the exams, there were 10 exams and the questions were short-answer. I remember telling people that if I were to pass, it would likely be because the people assigned to my tests passed me just because they couldn't decipher my handwriting any longer. I was pretty sure I had passed the exam, but of course there's always room for doubt.
I was to expect the results in the mail in about a month or so. I remember that spring day, walking out to my mail box. I have to say I was surprised to see the envelope with the CPCU logo from Malvern, Pennsylvania, as I had kind of forgotten about the exam since several weeks had passed. I took a deep breath and opened the envelope. Side note: another interesting thing to note is when I first started taking the tests, the results simply stated whether you passed or failed. Over the next five years, they had evolved and started to provide information regarding how you fared in regard to specific chapters within the exam.
As you may have guessed, I did pass the exam. What a relief and sense of accomplishment! I had set out to take two exams a year and wrap things up within five years; thankfully, I was able to meet that goal. The annual meeting that year was October 2001 in Seattle. Taking a flight a month after 9/11 was surreal. I'll never forget the military personnel with AK-47s stationed around the airport.
I hope this reflection has given you a chance to reflect on your memories of getting your CPCU.
Also, be sure to register and attend the All Industry Day on Monday, October 29th to help congratulate the new members of the MN Chapter of CPCU.
Happy learning!
